Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali Friday accepted the resignations of 25 caretaker cabinet members who resigned a day earlier as per the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Some twenty members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker cabinet had tendered their resignations on Thursday in order to pave way for nonpartisan and apolitical caretaker setup in line with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan. The ECP had objected to the activities of the few ministers showing their political affiliations. The remaining eight members of Azam Khan Cabinet submitted their resignations on Friday.
Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan sent a summary about resignations of the 25 cabinet members to the governor Friday which was approved by the governor.
The Election commission of Pakistan through a letter had asked the caretaker chief minister to remove those cabinet members who have affiliation with political parties and consequently the caretaker chief minister had asked the cabinet members to resign
The caretaker chief minister is likely to appoint new members of the cabinet shortly with the sources saying some of the cabinet members who resigned Thursday would be re-inducted into the KP caretaker setup.
