The outstanding performance of 86 local and multinational companies and industries in the arena of environmental protection will be recognized at the 20th Annual Environment Excellence Awards-2023 here at a hotel on August 9 (Wednesday).
The National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) is organizing the event.Sindh Governor, Kamran Khan Tessori, and Sindh Local Government Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, as the chief guests on the occasion, will jointly give the awards to the successful companies in recognition of their hard work to reverse the phenomenon of environmental degradation. Out of the 86 award winners, six companies will be specially recognized for their outstanding contributions to tree plantation campaigns.
Also on the occasion, a conference will be held on “Adapting urban transportation to climate change” to be attended by the concerned environmentalists and relevant experts. Consul General of the United Arab Emirates in Karachi, Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi will grace the conference as the guest of honour.
Other noted speakers of the conference include senior environmental activist and former SEPA DG, Mehtab Akbar Rashidi, Ashar Lodhi, Syed Omar Arif, Bilawal Suhag, Shabina Faraz, and Abdul Aziz of Bus Rapid Transit Service in Karachi.NFEH President, Naeem Qureshi, said the Annual Environment Excellence Awards and conference was held every year regularly with the basic objective in mind to discussing prevailing serious environmental challenges in the country and also to recognize and rewarding hard work by the industries and corporate sector in safeguarding the environment.
He said the event went a long way in encouraging the local and multinational companies and industrial units to fully comply with the national and international environmental safety standards for ensuring that their core operations shouldn’t harm the environment.
He said the conference would discuss several initiatives being implemented in Karachi and other urban areas of the country to modernize public transport facilities so that the same services should safeguard the environment to the maximum possible extent.Qureshi said the recommendations of the conference would be sent to all the relevant authorities for implementation them for transforming the new urban transport facilities into environment-friendly passenger carries.
