So for each successive government could not be able to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but this time the parliament and government is committed to chase such goals in real means, said National Assembly Standing Committee for Law and Justice Chairman Riaz Fatyana on Thursday.
He was speaking at Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) ceremony. The MoU was singed between FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan Ltd (FCEPL) and the Parliamentary Taskforce on SDGs to assist the SDGs Secretariat in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals.
While highlighting the role of women in country development, Fatyana said that under SDGs the women in the country especially in the rural areas would be more empowered.
He said that in term of term as food we should follow policies and criteria of the Netherlands to fill the milk deficiency in the country, adding that as the Netherlands the number first country in the world producing milk. “The state of affairs regarding women’s rights has hardly ever been a matter of pressing concern for our masters”, he recalled.
Fatyana claimed that the comprehensive Ehsaas programme is the one of some other efforts the incumbent government made for supporting the economic empowerment of women, adding that through such initiatives we are committed to convert the country into a ‘welfare state’.
The MoU was signed by Managing Director FCEPL, Ali Ahmed Khan. Others included President FrieslandCampina Consumer Dairy, Roel F. Van Neerbos, members of the SDG taskforce and parliamentarian’s from National and Provincial assembly, were also part of the MoU signing ceremony.
As per the agreement FCEPL will provide technical support to the SDGs Secretariat, National Assembly of Pakistan jointly, for the creation of an enabling policy environment to achieve SDGs.
The Company will also provide research support for evidence-based policies and legislations as and when required by the members of the Secretariat in areas of mutual cooperation. Furthermore, the joint scope of work will also include producing policy brief, analyses and reports, on SDGs.
Under this partnership, both organizations will work jointly for establishing and sustaining national and regional policy forums to assist governments in achieving SDG targets in agreed areas. Lastly, FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan Ltd. (FCEPL)will aid the SDGs Secretariat in organizing policy dialogues, seminars, trainings and capacity building programs for the parliamentarians on mutually decided upon areas and joint scope of work.
Speaking at the occasion, Ali Ahmed Khan said, this MoU is a momentous occasion for our company. He claimed that FrieslandCampina Engro Pakistan Ltd has been working towards eradicating malnutrition in Pakistan for many years now.
“We are proud to be joining hands with the SDGs Secretariat and I would like to thank them for entrusting us to help them in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”, he said.
