Minister of Livestock and Fisheries in Sindh, Abdul Bari Pitafi, has said an ongoing plan to enhance fish production and generate fish seed at the provincial level is nearly to be completed which is aimed to address the declining fish production in Sindh and provide local fishermen with resources to improve their financial situation, including the construction of colonies to uplift their living standards. These statements were made during the inauguration of a back yard fish hatchery her on the other day.
Pitafi emphasized the importance of increasing fish production in Keenjhar Lake, which has been neglected by officials in the past, resulting in a shortage of fish. The main issue lies in the low water release from the KB feeder for several years. He stated that the newly established fish hatchery would be operational within the next four months and would have the capacity to produce 25 million fish hatchlings at a time.
