Steps afoot to ensure peace during Muharram

In preparations for the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram, the twin cities’policehave taken proactive measures to maintain peace and security in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to the press release issued by Islamabad police on Tuesday, instructions in this regard have been issued to all Zone DPOs to hold meetings with the organizers of Imambargahs, said a news release issued on Tuesday.

On the other hand, an important meeting was held under the supervision of SSP (Operations) Malik JameelZafar, to assess the law and order situation, focusing on crime control and addressing the concerns related to professional criminals.

The meeting was attended by zonal DPOs, SDPOs and all concerned officers from police stations. The meeting aimed to evaluate the performance of all police stations and take necessary actions against professional criminals.

The SSP (Investigation) directed officers to ensure that in future meetings, the performance of officers is assessed and no compromise is made in dealing with criminals. Safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in the capital city is the foremost responsibility of Islamabad capital police. The cases of motorcycle and motor vehicle theft were discussed, and efforts were made to apprehend the culprits.

The investigation of the cases should be expedited, and the challan should be submitted to the courts without delay, he added. He further said that, the cases should be thoroughly investigated and improvements should be made in the inspection of cases. Meanwhile, a meeting was held in the chair of Superintendent of Police (Rawal) Faisal Saleem in connection with MuharramulHarram security arrangements in the Potohar Town office. According to the police sources, SP Faisal Saleem said that Ulema should play an imperative role in promoting harmony, and brotherhood and to maintain peace during Muharram. He said that foolproof security arrangements will be made on the occasion. Body search should be ensured for all persons entering Imambargahs and mourning processions, he added. Effective patrolling will also be ensured. He made it clear that it is the prime duty of the police to protect the lives and properties of people, adding no one will be allowed to disrupt a peaceful atmosphere. The participants of the meeting also assured their cooperation to maintain law and order.
