Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei’s special representative, Agha Dr Syed Mehdi Alizada Mousavi, who is in Srinagar, today, offered Zuhr prayer at the historic Central Jamia Masjid.

The officials and staff of Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid accorded him a warm welcome on his arrival. On the occasion, Dr Syed Mehdi hailed the unique architecture of the grand mosque and the beauty of this great place of worship.

However, he deplored that the Anjuman head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been kept under house detention for the past nearly four years. He also regretted of not being able to meet and exchange ideas with the Mirwaiz due to his house detention.

Dr Syed Mehdi was presented with the history of Anjuman Auqaf and other scholarly gifts as well as a Kashmiri shawl on behalf of the detained Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Earlier, he also visited the historic educational institution Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam and the insti-tutes running under it including the Islamia Oriental College, Anjuman’s library, historic building and auditorium of Islamia High School. He got ac-quainted with the history of one of the oldest educa-tional institutions in IIOJK.

While talking to the officials of the Anjuman, Dr Syed Mehdi assured all possible support for the teaching of the Persian language in the Islamia Ori-ental College so that the understanding of this im-portant language can be promoted far and wide.

The head of Paerwaan-e-Wilaayat, Agha Syed Sibte Shabbir Qummi, was also present during Dr Syed Mehdi’s visit.—KMS
