Sherry calls for making joint efforts to tackle challenges of climate change

Federal Minister for Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman on Thursday stated that Pakistan despite being a low emitter was adversely affected by the impact of climate change and the country’s adaptive capacity for compliance with UNSDG was in question.

She expressed these views while speaking at “In a conversation with Mosharraf Zaidi” on the concluding day of the 6th edition of ‘Leaders in Islamabad Business Summit’ with the theme “The Big Rethink” on a pledge to revisit and rethink.

During the two-day session, the conference that was jointly organized by Nutshell Conferences Group and Martin Dow Group in strategic partnership with Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Unity Foods Limited, was addressed by business leaders, economists, strategists, politicians and social scientists.

Sherry Rehman while congratulating the organizers for holding a timely summit said it was essential to re-prioritize our targets. She defined corporate social responsibility or CSR as too limited for the required effect. She stressed that a lot more was needed to be done for inclusivity and “rethink is in order.” She urged the media organizations to stop politicizing climate change and give sufficient space to discourse around it.

She also spoke about going green for safety and survival. “Pakistan produces plastic trash equivalent to the might of two K2 annually, and having signed the plastic treaty in Paris recently, I would request at least the big hotels to get rid of the plastic bottles.”
