Light to moderate rain and winds on Monday brought a pleasant change in weather in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The residents of twin cities were facing warm weather for the last three days.

Rain lashed different parts of the federal capital and the adjoining garrison city on Monday afternoon, decreasing the day temperatures and turning the weather pleasant.

The rain started as a drizzle around 3:45 pm, turned into light to moderate intensity and continued for a short time.

The rain came as a respite for inhabitants of the twin cities and provided them with an opportunity to visit picnic spots and other recreational places as the weather turned pleasant.

During the last couple of weeks, the weather had turned mildly warm during the day time but took another cool turn following the rain.

As a result of the rain, the mercury dropped several degrees, while clouds continued to hover over Islamabad and Rawalpindi, giving citizens much-needed respite from the scorching sun.

Saba Mumtaz, a housewife said, “Although most of the people were concerned about increasing temperatures as per some reports, this rain spell is a sigh of relief for most of people.”

Local residents and visitors from adjoining areas of the capital city rushed to parks and recreational spots to enjoy the chilly weather after rain lashes city. A huge rush of families and youngsters were seen outside. The light rain and cool breeze proved to be a pleasant surprise for the picnickers as it enhanced the greenery, and gave them a chance to catch scenic glimpses of nature and enjoy the pleasant weather with family and friends.

“The weather is absolutely pleasant and lovely today. It attracted me visit Daman-e-Koh with my family,” said a visitor Jubran Ahmad at Damn-e-Koh. A large number of crowds, mostly families, were seen at different parks and popular spots including Rawal Lake, Shakarparian, Saidpur village, Monal, Daman-e-Koh, Shahdra, and Rose and Jasmine Garden

Morover,a large number of people made a beeline for tourist spots and hill stations including Murree and Galiyat to enjoy the pleasant weather.

The rain occurred after the westerly wave entered the western and upper parts of the country on Sunday and was likely to persist till May 31 (Wednesday).

The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has urged drivers to exercise cautions for ensuring their safety during driving in rainy weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has earlier forecast wind-dust/thunderstorm-rain in upper and central parts during this week with occasional gaps while temperatures are likely to remain normal to below normal.

About possible impacts, the PMD has earlier in its advisory warned that dust storms/wind storms may cause damage to loss of structure and standing crops in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh and Kashmir during the period.

The farmers and travellers have been advised to remain cautious during the forecast period. The general public is advised to stay at safe places during the dust storm/wind thunderstorm.
