The trading communities of Pakistan and Afghanistan have formed Pak- Afghan Trade Facilitation Committee to promote bilateral trade between both neighboring countries and work for removing hurdles in this regard. The committee was formed during a meeting held here in the office of the Peshawar based Commercial Attaché of Afghanistan.
The Afghan side was represented by First Secretary Afghan Consulate, Abdul Haseeb Spas, Deputy Attaché, Dr. Hameedullah Fazal Khel, Abdullah Bacha, Aman Gul and Mamoor Khan while Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, ,Khalid Shehzad, Imtiaz Ahmad Ali, Syed Kamran Shah and Jehangir Alamgir represented Pakistan side.
Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, former senior vice president, Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and president of Frontier Customs Agents Group (FCAG) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was nominated as chairman of the committee
The meeting reviewed matters relating to bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan and Afghan transit trade and decided the constitution of a high-level committee for the resolution of problems faced the business community of both countries. The committee comprising of 12 members with six representatives from each country will pinpoint problems and present proposals that would presented to the governments of both countries. The meeting particularly stressed for the abolition of SRO 121 and bonded carrier and allowing of lose cargo for the transportation of transit goods to Afghanistan. Under the step the cargo of Afghan transit trade would be transported from Karachi to Peshawar.
