Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday extended bail to former prime minister Imran Khan till May 31, barring authorities from arresting him in any case.
The development came during the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) plea seeking details of all cases filed against Imran Khan, claiming that the PTI chief has been booked in more than 100 cases.
The federal government — represented by the additional attorney general for Pakistan, the advocate general for Pakistan and the state counsel — requested time from the court to provide details of cases against the PTI chief.
Approving their request, the IHC adjourned the hearing till May 31.
In a separate case, the IHC has also declared the detention of PTI leaders Maleeka Bukhari and Ali Muhammad Khan “null and void”.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb ordered the immediate release of both politicians.
Last week, the former premier was detained forcefully by NAB with the help of Pakistan’s paramilitary force, Rangers, from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
His arrest sparked outrage and violent protests which led to country-wide clashes against the armed forces of the country. Protesters ransacked and vandalised military installations, including the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore.
On Tuesday, the National Security Committee (NSC) endorsed the decision of the country’s top military brass to try those involved in ransacking the military installations under the Pakistan Army Act and Official Secret Act.
