Pakistan’s squash legends Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan were each awarded the country’s highest civilian award, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, as part of the 23rd March celebrations.

President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi presented both former internationals with their medals.

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of the hard work you already did. I want to share this lesson with the youth, never give up! I dedicate this award to the resilient people of Pakistan, my fans & everyone who was part of my journey. Pakistan zindabad!” Jahangir Khan wrote on his Twitter account after receiving Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

Jahangir and Jansher dominated the world of squash for decades earning numerous laurels for their country.

Jahangir is perhaps best remembered for his streak of winning 555 matches consecutively, a feat likely to remain unmatched. He also has the distinction of winning the British Open a record 10 consecutive times and the World Open six times.

Jansher, meanwhile, won the World Open a record eight times while winning the British Open six times in his illustrious career.

Meanwhile, Javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem and weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt were also conferred the Pride of Performance award after winning gold medals in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Babar Azam also received his Sitara-e-Imtiaz during the 23rd March celebrations.
