A send-off ceremony for 18 trainees in Human Resource Development Scholarship Programme (JDS) was held on Friday at the residence of Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan. This is the second batch of the officers of grade-17 and above on way to some of Japan’s leading institutions. The programme was originally launched in Pakistan in 2018.
The main objective of JDS is to strengthen the administrative capacities of government of Pakistan for social and economic development. This programme targets young government officials, who are expected to play a leadership role in the development of their country. Last Thursday, ie July 25, the grant agreement on the details of implementation of the project for fiscal year 2019 was signed and exchanged between Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Shigeki Furuta, and Joint Secretary, EAD Adil Akbar Khan.
In pursuance of that, a send-off ceremony of the scholarship awardees was held at Japan Ambassador Kuninori Matsuda’s residence. Federal Secretary Economic Affairs Division Noor Ahmed was the chief guest on the occasion. The eighteen young officials of the government of Pakistan were looking quite excited on their upcoming visit and stay in Japan for around two years. This year, 18 competent civil servants from thirteen different departments enrolled in six different universities will study in Japan.
