Chairman National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Col (R) Amirullah Marwat said that the National Commission for Human Development was working on Literacy & Non-formal Education for empowerment to the underprivileged section of society along with other stakeholders.
He expressed these views while chairing 54th meeting of the Commission of (NCHD) was held at NCHD Headquarter in Islamabad. The commission meeting was attended by members from all four provinces, Anwar Saleem Kasi from Balochistan, Prof. Dr. Haroona Jatoi from Sindh, Dr. Begum Jaan from KPK, members from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Mr. Amjad Ahmad and member from Ministry of Finance along with DG NCHD Mr. Junaid Akhlaq as secretary to the commission including all directors of NCHD.The Chairman briefed the commission about the functions of the organization and the vitality in the current scenario as the Human Development Indicators nationwide are on a decreasing trend. He said that the institution aimed at enhancing and improving literacy rate through its two pronged strategy to provide access to education i.e. Adult Literacy Program for the mothers and Universal Primary Education through its Feeder Schools in the remote areas for the unprivileged children. The devastating waters have affected 3.5 million school-aged children in the worst-hit provinces, already the situation had undergone longest school closures due to the (Covid-19) pandemic, and children are experiencing yet another threat to their future. Hence, to tackle the issue NCHD is the only Federal Entity after the 18th Amendment with the constitutional responsibility of working at national level with coverage of 124 districts of Pakistan.
He informed about NCHD’s other important intervention in Madrasa Feeder Schools i.e. Enrollment campaign as a regular feature of UPE program NCHD had contributed in enrolling 1, 041,975 OOSCs in the last two quarters of the year 2022 (July- Dec). 100 Madrasa Feeder schools are functional in Punjab, Sindh, KPK.
