The Chief minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood khan has directed the provincial and Distt administrations throughout the province to take stern action against hoarders, stockiest and artificial price rise of essential food items of daily use especially Atta. “Punitive actions should be initiated against them. All DCs should send teams in field to discourage hoarding of essential items especially Wheat products”. The Chief Minister KP ordered.
He issued these directives following media reports and public complaints about the artificial price spiral of Atta and other food items in the markets. Chief minister directed to immediately convene Meetings of Consumers committee and hold regular meetings of the committee to take steps for price control of Atta and other commodities of daily use. He further directed that Daily reports about the overall market situation and stability of prices of Atta and other food items should be shared with PMRU for onward transmission to the chief minister.
Chief minister is personally monitoring the situation and warned to take action against stockiest, hoarders and unwarranted price spiral of Atta and other food items throughout the province. While the Nanbai Association Peshawar (bread-makers body) announced strike from Monday and demanded further increase in rates of bread in the city, the provincial government has rejected increasing the rate of roti . The chief minister directed to supply Atta to nanbais trough nominated dealers on government fixed rates. The meeting of district administration and consumers committee is going on and nanbai association is also present.
The government rejected the rise of rate of rati. The chief minister said he will not shift burden to the people. The government is ready to arrange fine Atta to nabais on subsidised rate. Fine Atta is available in the market that will be increased further, he added. Mahmood khan hoped that nanbais who have cooperated with the government in the past, will cooperate in future as well. In the meanwhile the supply of wheat flour from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has restored and a crisis in making has been avoided, an official of flour dealers body said. “A convoy of 25 trucks, carrying consignment of wheat flour, has reached Peshawar,” the dealers association said. The price of a 20 KG bag has dropped to 1100 rupees from earlier price of 1200, dealers said.
