Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) Senior Vice Chairman Usman Ashraf has proposed to prepare a draft of at least a ten-year consensus policy for the development of the economy in consultation with all stakeholders and said that a mechanism should be chalked out which will ensure that the economic policies would not be affected by change of the governments.

He further said it is the need of the hour that the political parties put aside their differences and ego and make practical progress towards a balanced and charter of the economy and a high-level committee comprising of economic experts should be formed to monitor it.

He expressed these views while addressing the weekly review meeting in the office of the association.

Senior central leader Abdul Latif Malik, Chairperson Carpet Training Institute (CTI) Aja Zalar Rehman, senior members Riaz Ahmed, Saeed Khan, Akbar Malik, Shahid Hassan, Umair Usman and others were also present on this occasion.

In the meeting, the uncertainty of the economy, fluctuations of the dollar, obstacles in the import of chemicals used in the manufacture of handmade carpets and other issues were discussed.

Usman Ashraf said that in the current situation, the export sector is suffering from serious problems, due to which the total exports are declining and due to this, there is pressure on the foreign exchange reserves.

“Announcements were made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the past few days to solve the problems of the export sectors, but unfortunately, there is no discernible progress in this regard.—NNI
