Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said that the nation appreciated the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision directing the ECP to hold polls in Punjab within 90 days, vowing that they stood behind judiciary for upholding constitution. In a statement on Saturday, PTI Chairman made it clear that there could be no democracy without rule of law.
He said that a strong, independent and credible judicial system ensured rule of law and safeguarded the constitution.
“The nation appreciates LHC decision on elections and stands behind Judiciary for upholding Constitution & restoring hope in judicial system,” he added.
Reacting to LHC’s historic decision, PTI Central Secretary General Asad Umar raised a question as where have they brought the country and said that it was clearly written in the constitution that elections would be held in 90 days. However, he expressed his apprehension that despite clear court’s verdict to hold polls in the stipulated timeframe, everyone seemed worry that the imported government would still look for escape routes from the election.
He said that it would be clear deviation from the constitution. Asad said that the public at large lost the confidence on the system, which was akin to shake the very foundation of the country.
