Imtiaz chairs meeting regarding safety of coal mines workers

Provincial Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh presided over a special meeting regarding the safety, security, insurance and compensation of workers working in Lakhra Coal Mines and Jhampir Coal Mines. In the meeting, DG Sindh Coal Mines and RT Mushtaq Ahmad Soomro, Additional Secretary, GM Coal Mines, Chief Inspector Mines, Secretary Association and representatives of Coal Mines Owners Association participated.

In the meeting, The Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh said that a rescue center should be established for the workers working in Lakhdar Coal Mines and Jhampir Coal Mines and all necessary arrangements should be completed immediately in this rescue center.

He further said that insurance for workers working in mines and immediate steps should be taken for compensation. He said that safety courses should also be started in this regard.

Imtiaz Sheikh said that Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has a special instruction that the workers working in mines. Safety should be given first priority and full medical in case of any accident. The provision of facilities should be ensured.

In the meeting, it was informed that in case of any accident while working in the mines, five lakh rupees will be given to the injured while the families of the dead workers will be paid one million rupees.

The Minister said that the construction of all roads leading to the mines should be completed immediately and new contracts and renewals of mines should not be made until complete measures regarding their insurance and safety as per SOPs are completed.
