4 killed as heavy snowfall continue hitting Upper Dir

As the heavy snowfall continued hitting the upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at least four people were crushed to death when a portion of glacier rolled over them on Thursday. The ill-fated victims belonged to a same family.

According to initial reports the four people came under heavy snow slide in Barkand village of Ashari Dara area of Upper Dir district. “A heavy snow avalanche rolled on their house burring them under tons of snow”. Officials said.

The Rescue 1122 and local administration rushed to the site and kicked off operation for retrieval of the dead bodies. The rescue personnel, officials said, have recovered two dead bodies while search for two more persons was going on till filing of this report.

Those killed in the misfortunate incident were identified as Sajid and Mohammad Said, residents of Barkand. The rescue personnel were facing difficulties in rescue operation due to heavy snow fall in the region as the roads were closed at many areas owing to snow and landslides.
