Renowned journalist Anuradha Bhasin’s new book, ‘A Dismantled State: The Untold Story of Kashmir After Article 370’, goes deep into the saga of a people betrayed and promises broken, writes Indian writer cum journalist Sushant Singh in his review of the book.
According to Kashmir Media Service, a Dismantled State: The Untold Story of Kashmir After Article 370’ by Anuradha Bhasin, the executive director of Jammu-based newspaper Kashmir Times, hit the stands on the 28th of the last month of December.
Sushant Singh, who is also a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi, said the book which has been meticulously researched, zealously argued and sharply written provides exhaustive and insightful coverage of the events of the last four years in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Sushant said that the Indian government has crossed an authoritarian threshold in Kashmir on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated, and the territory split and downgraded to two union territories. He said that the book traverses that journey of transition in Kashmir that has left the people of the territory in deep distress.
Sushant Singh says that Anuradha Bhasin begins each of the 12 chapters with a powerful quote. But, he adds, if there is one quote that encapsulates the whole book, it would be Milan Kundera’s “The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting.”—INP
