Many terrorists killed, wounded in shootout

The terror hit Dera Ismail Khan Division once again as the terrorists ambushed a police post in Kulachi Tehsil with most sophisticated weapons on Friday leaving at least four men in uniform seriously wounded. Unconfirmed reports say a number of attackers were also killed and wounded in the retaliatory fire by the security personnel.

Reports reaching here said a group of terrorists launched attack on a police picket, located in the limits of Kulachi police station in Dera Ismail Khan. “The attackers fired more than 17 rockets on the policemen and also used hand-grenades on Takwarra area of D I Khan near Kulachi Tehsil that left at least four cops seriously injured,” the senior cop said. Following the ambush contingents of FC and police force rushed to the troubled spot and effectively retaliated the attack forcing the terrorists flee.

It was also reported that the attackers also suffered heavy losses though the details could not be ascertained. The law enforcers are reported to have kicked off search and net operation in the region following the attack.

Agencies add: The police maintained that DPO Muhammad Shoaib Khan along with DSP Sadar Hafiz Adnan and the squad gave “a swift response.”

According to the law enforcement agencies, this “is the biggest terrorist attack on any police post in the history of DI Khan”.

Around 20 terrorists surrounded the checkpost on three sides and started firing, using modern weapons, including PG-7 rockets and grenades.

During the 2.5-hour operation by the police, some terrorists were killed and others injured but they were taken away by their comrades.

After the incident, security across the district, including Kulachi, has been tightened. DPO Khan said that the police “will not let the terrorists’ ambitions succeed at any cost”.
