5-day training on food safety concludes

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore had arranged a five days training on ‘Meat Value Chain, Operation & Food Safety’ for senior livestock officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). Additional Secretary Agriculture Development (KPK) Samiullah Khan and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad co-chaired the concluding ceremony of training here on Friday and distributed shields among the participants. Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DD) Project Director KPK Dr Qazi Zia-ur-Rehman, Dr Muhammad Ikram and 18 participants were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS imparting practical knowledge to students for enhancing their skills and competencies and producing trained graduates every year. He added UVAS graduate working actively as trained human resource in livestock, poultry, meat, food and dairy industry to solving their issues and playing their vital role in the socio economic development of Pakistan.

Samiullah Khan acknowledged the role of UVAS for imparting practical knowledge and best practices to in-services livestock professionals. He advised all the participants to apply their knowledge in practical fields which learnt from training to solve livestock farming community issues.

Various aspects had been discussed during five days training related to meat industry present and future prospects methodology, establishing slaughter house as entrepreneur, feed formulation for feedlot fattening to save calves, food safety regulation with special reference to meat (local & export methods, halal food regulations in sharia perspective, halal food management system requirements, meat value chain, strategic marketing systems and plan, best farm practices (animal selection criteria, best farm practices, vaccination, deworming, feeding) etc.
