Poland’s Szymon Marciniak has been tasked with taking charge of the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and France at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
The 41-year-old will be joined by assistants Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz.
Szymon Marciniak will have the honour of being the Polish referee to officiate a World Cup final.
He took charge of two World Cup matches in 2018 in Russia after having already been a FIFA-listed official in 2013 after starting his career in the Polish top flight in 2009.
At this year’s world cup he has already officiated games involving Argentina and France hence making him a perfect candidate for the final as well.
He oversaw the game between France and Denmark and the round of 16 match between Argentina and Australia. The Pole has dished out five yellow cards, Zero red cards and no penalties across the two games.
Marciniak is also quickly becoming a regular feature in European football as well.
He took charge of the 3-3 nail-biter between Barcelona and Inter Milan at Camp Nou and the 2-1 Porto defeat of Atletico Madrid which saw them crash out of Europe.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Abdulrahman Al Jassim will referee the third-place match between Croatia and Morocco at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday while compatriots Taleb Al Marri and Saoud Ahmed Almaqaleh will serve as his assistants.
