Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, the Deputy Prime Minister of the incumbent administration in Afghanistan condemned the Friday attack on Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s office and vowed to work to prevent similar attacks.

Two armed assailants on Friday, December 2, attacked Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s office, the headquarters of Hizb-e-Islami (Islamic Political Party) located in Kabul police district 6.

The attack on the Iman Mosque of Hizb-e-Islami office of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar in the Darulaman area of Kabul resulted in the fatalities of two guards and two assailants.

Unconfirmed reports state that the assailants intended to detonate a car bomb, but were interrupted by Hekmatyar’s bodyguards.

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar survived the assassination attempt; however, the clash between the assailants and guards resulted in 4 deaths, 2 from each side.

Hekmatyar is a prominent member of the jihadist movement and a close ally of the authorities in Afghanistan. He has recently strongly denounced the currents against the administration in the sermons he gives after Friday prayers.

He is still considered one of Afghanistan’s most notorious warlords, accused of multiple terrorist attacks and war crimes, and was previously on the United Nations blacklist. His have run torture chambers in Pakistan and thrown acid at women.

In a separate incident, assailants, on Friday, attacked the embassy of Pakistan in Kabul with the intention of the assassination of the newly arrived Pakistani Head of Mission, Ubaid-ur-Rahman Nizamanni, who also survived the attempt.

No group or organization has yet claimed responsibility for the either of attacks that took place on Friday, December 2, in Kabul, the Afghan capital.—Ariana news
