Punjab govt reconstitutes JIT
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to investigate the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday has failed to launch investigation due to not being given proper directives regarding the case.
The Interior Ministry could only issue a letter to investigate the incident and the members have not even been given any directions on the matter by anyone from the Punjab government or the IG office.
In this regard, the JIT sources revealed that IG Punjab also went on a 14-day X-Pakistan leave after the case was registered and the acting IG Kanwar Shahrukh did not pass any orders for investigation.
It may be noted that the alleged attacker named Naveed is still in the custody of the Gujranwala police, while the police have failed to present him before the court despite the passage of 12 days to the attack on Imran Khan.
Meanwhile the Punjab Home Department has, for the third time, reconstituted the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the attack on PTI chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad.
The government made changes and notified the ‘amended JIT’ on Tuesday.
The Punjab government has appointed Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar as the head of the JIT. He has replaced DG Khan RPO Syed Khurram Ali Shah, who has now been named a member of the team.
The other members are: Punjab Police Investigation Branch AIG Ihsanullah Chohan, Rawalpindi Potohar Division SP Malik Tariq Mehboob and Counter Terrorism Department SP Naseebullah Khan.
