Fatimid held 2-day blood donation camp at SSUET

Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, in collaboration with the Fatimid Foundation, conducted 2-day blood donation camp at the campus for the Thalassemia patients.

A large number of students participated in the campaign that was arranged to create awareness among students about the importance of blood donation for the Thalassemia patients.Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali visited the camp that motivated students to volunteer for blood donation. Expressing his views on the occasion, he said that Pakistan is among the highest thalassemia burden countries in the world.

According to a report, Pakistan has 100,000 transfusion-dependent Thalassemia patients and every year 5,000 babies are born with this deadly disease.  It is estimated that about 2.7 million blood donations are collected. Director Thalassemia Centre & Blood Management Department, Dr. Azizuddin Qamaruddin, said that Thalassemia patients in Pakistan needs 36 lakh bottles while collection is limited to 24 to 25 lakh. He pointed out that people should not be worried about donating blood because it is a very healthy activity. Blood donation reduces the chances of cardiac arrest and kidney failure.

You may donate blood every after 3 months. Donor should have at least 50 kg weight and his hemoglobin range should be more than 12.5. Blood saves three lives as it has 3 components, RBC, Plasma and Platelets.
