Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah on Monday claimed that the audio leak saga, which stirred debates over the security of the Prime Minister’s House and Office, had been resolved as the main culprits behind the leaks had been identified.
Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah, while talking to a private TV channel, said that the audio leak saga had been “resolved”, adding that there was no proof of the involvement of a foreign spy agency in the leaks.
“Some staff members of the PM’s House have been identified… such things are done for money,” the minister added.
Rana Sanaullah said that during telephone conversations and informal chats at the PMO, a tiny recording device would be regularly planted on the premises.
Regarding the investigation being carried out about the leaks, Rana Sanaullah said that the probe would continue, adding that the findings of the investigations being carried out could also be shared with courts through an in-camera briefing.
“Under the directives of the Prime Minister and the National Security Council, an investigation is underway, the results of which will be presented before the premier, and then it will be decided to what extent the findings be shared,” Rana Sanaullah said.
Recently, audio leaks from the highest executive office in the country, the Prime Minister’s Office, went viral on social media, which involved conversations of both the former Prime Minster Imran Khan and the incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

To probe into the matter, the government has formed three separate investigation and oversight bodies. One team comprises officials of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB). The second one includes officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to ascertain how the US cypher went missing from the PM’s House. And a third team has been constituted as an oversight committee headed by the interior minister to supervise the investigations.
