The teams will provide relief items including shelter, kitchen unit, medicines and hygienic food like dry ration/feed of animals, seed packet as well as veterinary services to the livestock farming community. Before the departure of volunteers’ teams, the UVAS organized a ceremony at the city campus, in which, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Convener UVAS Flood Relief Management Committee Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz and others were present.

Addressing the audience, Prof Dr Shahid Munir said that global warming was the real cause of melting glaciers and heavy flood in the country, and for this purpose it was direly needed to establish a Kalabagh Dam for saving & conservation of water. He acknowledged the UVAS volunteer activities in the flood-hit areas and said the services of UVAS to be a role model for other institutions of Pakistan.

On the occasion, Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said the UVAS had so far collected Rs 15 million under UVAS Flood Relief & Assistance Campaign 2022 (run through social, print and electronic media). He said that livestock was the only source of livelihood for the majority of rural population and this year, due to devastation by heavy floods, the livestock farming community was facing economic losses. He mentioned that there was also shortage of food and animal feed in flood hit areas. He thanked to all donors who reposed confidence in the UVAS for relief activities.

He also called more and more donation from donors to providing volunteer community services in flood hit areas of Sindh and Baluchistan for Phase-3.
