In the wake of fast spreading waterborne diseases in the country, National Bank of Pakistan in collaboration with NGOs has prepared to provide bottled drinking water to flood-hit areas.
The unprecedented rains and floods have caused the devastation of an enormous magnitude in most parts of the country, said NBP release on Wednesday.
Official estimates suggested that more than thirty-three million people had been affected and more than one thousand had lost their lives. Pakistani nation as a whole including civil society, and humanitarian organizations were continuing rescue and relief efforts.
Health Officials had reported outbreak of water-borne diseases i. e. diarrhea, skin diseases, and eye infections in the flood affected areas.
National Bank of Pakistan, in collaboration with NGOs namely Thardeep Microfinance Foundation and Rural Community Development Program have stepped up to provide immediate aid to the vulnerable communities in the country by providing water purifiers developed by PakVitae to provide flood affected households access to clean drinking water.
These water purifiers have patent coverage in 82 countries and have undergone rigorous testing by independent and ISO certified labs to meet the standards established by the United States Environment Protection Agency , NSF International and World Health Organization.These help remove bacteria, parasites, micro plastics and turbidity.
NBP’s President and CEO, Rehamt Ali Hasnie announced additional measures to provide relief to the flood victims by contributing Rs 50 million to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund.
He mentioned that NBP had also launched a digital payments platform enabling people across the globe and within Pakistan to donate using their preferred payment method, i.e., Credit/Debit Card, International bank transfer, local bank direct debit, wallets and ATMs. NBP Chief President appealed to the nation to donate generously so that better relief cover could be provided to millions of rain and flood-hit people in many areas of the country.
