The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Wednesday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the country, warning of urban flooding in several major cities and flash flooding in numerous areas of Balochistan.

“A well-marked low pressure located over east Rajasthan (India) is likely to move northwest direction and approach Sindh tonight,” PMD spokesperson said in a statement.

Due to this strong weather system, he added, monsoon currents are penetrating in the southern and upper parts of the country.

“More rain-wind/thundershower (with scattered heavy to very heavy falls) is expected in Sindh, South Punjab, south and northeastern Balochistan from August 23 and 26 with occasional gaps,” the statement said.

The spokesperson said that rains with winds and thundershowers are expected in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to 26.
