Huawei, GIK join hands to launch first undergraduate degree program in Pakistan

Huawei Technologies Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. and Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology jointly signed a MoU to launch the pilot undergraduate degree program for Artificial Intelligence in Pakistan.
The program is the first of its kind enterprise-academia partnership and serves as a milestone in an already successful four year-long partnership that started with the establishment of the Huawei ICT Academy at GIK in 2016. GIK, one of the most prestigious engineering institutes in the country is renowned for setting a standard of excellence in the field of engineering.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Rector GIK, Mr. Jehangir Bashar, Executive Director, SOPREST and senior member of the Board of Governors of GIK, Mr. Shakil Durrani, Managing Director Huawei EBG Pakistan, Mr. Gao Weijie and other respective members from both organizations.
Mr. Bashar and Mr. Durrani appreciated Huawei’s efforts in taking the initiative. They stated that the program carries great potential since an industry-academia collaboration of this scale is the first of its kind. They encouraged building upon this initiative with the aid of cutting edge technologies which could help put Pakistan on the map.
MD of Huawei EBG Pakistan, Mr. Gao Weijie reiterated that Huawei would work hard to ensure the success of the program, would continue to contribute to Pakistan’s talent ecosystem and help by bringing the latest technologies to the country. The Artificial Intelligence degree program is expected to be launched in August of 2020.
Huawei will be sharing its AI research and achievements with the faculty and students of GIK for them to benefit from the latest technologies to improve the value of academic education. With the success of the degree program in Artificial Intelligence, Huawei and GIK look forward to future cooperation in the fields of intelligent computing and cloud computing and so on. Through such programs, Huawei and GIK institute shall support the regional information and communication technology education, share knowledge and create more opportunities.
