Dr. Amir Khatam Khan deputy director agriculture on Friday said that agricultural extension (also known as agricultural advisory services) plays a crucial role in boosting agricultural productivity, increasing food security, improving rural livelihoods, and promoting agriculture as an engine of pro-poor economic growth. He expressed these views while talking to the media. Dr. Amir Khatam Khan said that diffusion theory is the theoretical base of agricultural extension.
He added that traditionally, under the diffusion approach, the mission of extension has been to increase agricultural production and productivity through the transfer of relevant knowledge and information, and the offering of technical and eco- nomic advices. He argued that the agriculture extinction department is playing the role of bridge between public and private reaches and former communities. He added that the agriculture extinction department used different methods, means and ways to connive these reaches to the farmers.
He added that to connive these research to the farmers the agriculture extinction department in this connection make individual contact, group contacts and forming fields schools. He added that the department also arranged mega gatherings and fruit and vegetable shows. He added that he published 209 papers on applied agriculture sciences. He added that his paper was also published in India, Turkey, America and Germany in different magazines. He added that fields are schools of farmers. He added that forming field schools are organized at fields and crops are the syllabus of these schools.
