3 women, four children are among dead
Balochistan government has declared the provincial capital Quetta a calamity-hit district after two-day heavy rainfall killed at least 25 people and injured dozens others across the province.
PDMA Director General Naseer Ahmed Nasar said three women and four children were also among the dead and added that 35 people were also injured in the rain-related incidents throughout the province during the last two days.
The relief commissioner also issued a notification to declare the provincial capital as calamity-hit after first spell of monsoon rains wreaked havoc in the province.
Many roads and streets in the outskirts of Quetta were inundated after heavy downpour which severely disrupted the routine life.
Elsewhere in Balochistan, torrential rains have played havoc. Over a dozen small and check dams were swept away in the flash floods in Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Bolan, Mastung and other parts Balochistan. Traffic remained suspended on Quetta-Jacobabad highway after flooding in Mach River.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Quddus Bizenjo has directed all departments concerned to expedite the relief operation and reach the affected people.
The rescue workers made hectic efforts to provide timely relief to the affected people in Sariab, Pashtoonabad, Nawan Killi, Kharotabad and other parts of the provincial capital, PDMA DG Naseer Ahmed Nasar told media.
He said rains have damaged hundreds of mud-walled houses in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. PDMA has also launched its operations in Awaran, Bolan and other parts of the province.
“PDMA has provided tents, blankets and food items to the affected people,” Ziaullah Langove, the Balochistan Home Minister said. Langove also visited the office of the PDMA to review the relief efforts.
DG PDMA Nasar briefed the minister about the relief operation underway in the province. Over a dozen injured people were brought to Civil Hospital, Quetta for medical treatment.
An emergency has been imposed to provide medical treatment to the injured, Waseem Baig, the spokesperson for Civil Hospital Quetta said.
