New York: Pakistan has urged the UN Security Council (UNSC) to seriously consider how to implement its resolutions, particularly concerning enduring issues like Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking at a discussion on the Security Council’s working procedures, Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, Aamir Khan, emphasised the need for the 15-member body to become more open, accountable, inclusive, and democratic to address the escalating problems.

‘Selective’ execution of the Council’s resolutions and non-implementation, he claimed, are the two things that most seriously damage the Security Council’s reputation.

The ambassador claimed that the Security Council’s inability to uphold its resolutions damages the credibility of the body and weakens support for the UN Charter’s principles of peaceful conflict resolution among States and peoples.

“The Security Council’s relationship with the General Assembly and the UN Economic and Social Council should also be brought into conformity with the letter and spirit of the UN Charter,” he said.
