British Council Pakistan Director Education Dr Nishat Riaz visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Friday and delivered a lecture on the topic of “British Council’s current programmes and initiatives for improvement in higher education in Pakistan”.
Dean Faculty of Biosciences Prof Dr Habib-ur-Rehman, Dean Faulty of Life Sciences Business Management Prof. Dr Muhammad Azam, Principal Officer Students Affairs Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and a large number of faculty members and postgraduate students were also present.
Dr Nishat Riaz said that UVAS students must be proud of studying in the historic institution of the country, which was playing a lead role in research on food production, food safety, food security, and development of the livestock sector. She said the British Council was offering scholarships to students for getting education as well as providing opportunities for faculty development.
She highlighted the importance of library, research, collaboration with other institutions to explore new innovative knowledge and skills. She shared her past experiences with students. She advised students to learn from history, as there was lot of diversification of cultures and religions in the world.
Students asked several questions at the end of the session regarding the role of British Council in edu-cation promotion in Pakistan. Later, Dr Nishat Riaz visited various departments of the university including UVAS Veterinary Academy and Pet Centre.
