The All Parties Hurriyat Conference leadership has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health conditions of illegally detained APHC Vice Chairman, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, and other Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in Indian jails including infamous Tihar jail.

APHC leaders and organizations including Abdul Ahad Parra, Zamrooda Habib, Yasmeen Raja, Dr Musaib, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League in their separate statements in Srinagar strongly condemned the denial of basic amenities including medical care to the detainees and termed it a brazen violation of the prisoners’ rights guaranteed by the Human Rights Charter of the United Nations. They said, Indian jails have been converted into death cells where Kashmiri detainees are subjected to physical and mental torture.

The APHC leaders and organizations urged the UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and International Committee of Red Cross to impress upon India to immediately release all Kashmiri political detainees from its hellish jails.

They said, at present, APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Peer Saifullah, Raja Merajuddin Kalwal, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahidul Islam, Fehmeeda Sofi, Naheeda Nasreen, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Muhammad Yousaf Mir, Muhammad Yousaf Falahi and other leaders are suffering from multiple ailments, but the authorities remain indifferent to their deteriorating health conditions.
