Islamabad police after hectic efforts has finally arrested the culprit accused of raping a Swedish woman who is working with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund .
According to details, Muhammad Safeer who is a security guard with a private security company allegedly sexually assaulted the woman whom he was supposed to protect. The incident took place on June 6 at the residence of the woman in G-6/4 where Safeer was deputed as security guard.
After the incident the accused had left the place and later after shortly appearing at his home in Chakri had left that place also.
The incident had caused international embarrassment for Pakistan and the world media particularly Indian channels were propagating that foreign nationals were not secure even in the capital city of Pakistan.
According to an official of Islamabad police, both human intelligence and scientific investigation worked towards a seemingly desperate case.
The accused had severed all his contacts after leaving his home and gave the impression as if he were leaving for some other city Karachi or Lahore.
In this way, he very tactfully escaped police’s efforts to arrest him and took refuge in the nearby jungles and kept changing his positions.
In the beginning according to police, it was believed he was gone for good but later a police informer suspected when he saw ‘someone’ visiting Safeer’s house late at night for perhaps changing clothes or to get food. Immediately after the visit he left the house in the dark hiding his face and went towards the reserves nearby.
According to police, that brief visit led to the arrest of Safeer. It is found out that he is a married man with four kids.
Safeer would be presented before the court on Thursday (today) for remand, an Aabpara police official told Pakistan Observer.
Inspector General of Police Islamabad Dr Akbar Nasir Khan at a press conference on Wednesday credited the police team headed by Senior Superintendent of Police (operations) Malik Jamil Zafar, comprising SP City Noshirwan Ali and other officers under the supervision of DIG Operations Sohail Zafar Chatha for the successful arrest.
The team managed to trace and arrest the accused after collecting all the evidence from the crime scene and got the victim medically examined, he added.
He said the accused had also confessed to the crime during the preliminary investigation.
