Federal Minister for Power Eng. Khurram Dastgir Khan said that energy conservation is the need of the hour during these testing times for the national economy. The potential of energy conservation has not been fully realized in the past.
He said this while chairing a session on the ‘energy conservation measures’ to resolve current energy crisis at National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA).
Mr. Khan highlighted that although Pakistan has sufficient capacity to deal with the demand-supply gap in the power sector, we do not have financial resources to make capacity additions based on costly imported fuel.
He said that deployment of energy efficient technologies, processes, and systems across various sectors of the economy leads towards energy conservation and, even, simple conservation actions in our offices, schools, public & commercial buildings like switching off extra lights and ACs lead towards significant energy savings.
Mr. Khan appreciated the institutionalization of energy efficiency and conservation in the country and reiterated the government’s resolve to take policy actions including the approval of National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Policy to inculcate a culture of energy conservation in the country.
