Islamabad: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the negotiations with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) would be concluded as per the approval of the parliament and the government.
“The government welcomes the ceasefire extended by the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan under the ongoing negotiations, which were opened in October last year,” Marriyum Aurangzeb said in a press conference on Friday in Islamabad, adding that the negotiations with the outlawed TTP were being held at the government level.
Addressing the role of the Afghan government in the talks, she said that the Afghan government was facilitating the talks, which had the representation of the civilian government as well as the military.
TTP extends ceasefire with govt
Following two days of discussions with a group of Pakistani tribal elders hosted by the Afghan Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said it extended a ceasefire with the government in Islamabad indefinitely.
The decision was made on Thursday, according to Mohammad Khurasani, a spokesperson for the proscribed TTP, after “significant progress” in talks with the 50-member delegation of elders.
He did not go into detail, and the Pakistani authorities did not immediately confirm the truce’s prolongation.
The previous cease-fire agreement between the two parties expired on May 30. So far, none of the ceasefires has resulted in more lasting peace.
Kabul vows to continue mediation between Pakistan, TTP
The Islamic Emirate says it will continue to act as a mediator between the Pakistani government and Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an insurgent group in Pakistan, with the aim of ensuring stability in the region.
“Based on its main and permanent policy of supporting security and stability in the region, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has continued to mediate between the Pakistani government and the Tehrik-i-Taliban and is still continuing its efforts and hopes for good results,” said Inamullah Samangani, a spokesman for the Islamic Emirate
