At least five people were killed and nine others were wounded in a traffic accident in the Sara-e-Shamali area in the north of Kabul city.
The crush occurred after a trailer truck went out of control and hit several cars and roadside stands, according to the Kabul department of traffic.
“The vehicle had a brake issue. It hit a Corolla model car and then two other vehicles. There was one wounded in a vehicle but the people in other vehicles were wounded and martyred,” said Mohammad Nawab, an official at the department of traffic.
The shopkeepers and vendors said they have suffered financial losses in the accident.
“Our canteens have been destroyed. They should pay the damage. This is our only source of income,” said a man working as a vendor in the area.
The truck was loaded with bags of flour.
“It was around four in the morning when a truck trailer came and crushed several cars,” said Rafi, an eyewitness.
“It first hit a Corolla model vehicle and then hit another truck which was loaded with sheep,” said Rishad, a witness.
A large number of Afghans are killed or wounded in traffic accidents across the country each year.
