Virtual University has contributed to generating IT exports worth Rupees 1.23 Billion through its flagship project: DigiSkills Training Program (DSTP)
DigiSkills Training Program began its journey back in 2018 when then Prime Minister Mr. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated it with a mission to offer one million training to the Pakistanis to gain marketable digital skills enabling them to become successful freelancers, employees, or entrepreneurs.
However, at the end of the first phase of the DigiSkills.pk program, more than two million training were provided which is a huge success.
DigiSkills.pk, a project initiated by the Ministry of IT & Telecom, executed by the Virtual University of Pakistan, and funded by Ignite-National Technology Fund has effectively played a vital role in provoking skill-oriented education in the youth of Pakistan. Thousands of individuals have already started earning after taking courses from DigiSkills.pk and became part of the growing economy. Consequently, DigiSkills.pk graduates greatly improved the gig economy.
The gig economy expansion in Pakistan is evidently powered by several factors including the country’s young population with 70% under 30 years of age, high-speed broadband access, and Government initiatives to improve science and technical education.
Today, after accomplishing eleven successful Batches of online training, DigiSkills.pk has undoubtedly earned triumph to digitally literate the population with marketable skills, with more than 2.4 million training imparted.
Irrespective of age and educational background, DigiSkills.pk has unfolded the opportunity to acquire skills for all. With the provision of consistent support and assistance to its trainees, it is more convenient for people to get into it and take the course(s) based on their choice with the ease of remaining at their places.
Since the inception of DigiSkills back in 2018, it brought Freelancing awareness among the masses. It helped people in acquiring in-demand skills through the online learning portal (Learning Management System). The DigiSkills.pk proved to be a great asset, especially for the people lacking a skill set or having a charm of learning technical skills. It has opened new horizons for the youth by motivating them to become self-reliant.
Due to COVID 19, the years 2020 and 2021 haven’t been the most comfortable.
