The All Parties Hurriyat Conference leadership has expressed concern about the safety of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders, activists, youth and women languishing in different jails of India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar appealed to the United Nations, International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights organizations to intervene and come to the rescue of Kashmiri detainees facing risk of life due to unavailability of proper food and access to doctors. The leadership emphasized that despite the fact that several liberation leaders are suffering from multiple ailments and they are still subjected to the worst physical torture in jails.
The leadership condemned the rising incidents of Indian state terrorism and the ongoing killing spree by the Indian troops in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It said the continued violence and bloodshed pose a serious existential threat to the Kashmiris and appealed to the international human rights organizations to stop Indian troops operating under a shield of draconian laws from harassing and humiliating Kashmiris, killing youth in fake encounters and raping women during cordon and search operations in the territory.
Meanwhile, Indian troops launched a cordon and search operation in Heff Shirmal area of Shopian district. The troops blocked all entry and exit points and suspended internet services in the area. The troops arrested a youth during a raid in Keeri area of Baramulla district.
A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service in connection with International Mother’s Day observed every year on second Sunday of May across the world, said thousands of Kashmiri women continue to wait for the return of their sons subjected to enforced disappearances in custody by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. As many as 22,944 Kashmiri women have been widowed and 11,255 raped, disgraced or molested by the Indian forces’ personnel since 1989.—KMS
