EVER since the ouster of PTI government, a malicious and smear campaign has been launched against the institutions especially the Army on the social media which is really condemnable that needs to be discouraged as creating any sort of wedge between the nation and the defence forces is something which will not benefit the country but only suit our enemies.
Military commanders at a meeting on Tuesday also took notice of the smear campaign against the Army and endorsed the position taken by the top brass on the political crisis in the country.
In a statement, the Formation Commanders expressed complete confidence in leadership’s well considered stance to uphold the Constitution and rule of law, at all costs.
Whilst much of the PTI anger has been targeted against the alleged foreign conspiracy, the military too has faced criticism for neither fully endorsing former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s position nor helping him against the onslaught of the opposition.
The fact of the matter is that institutions such as the Army and the Judiciary have some constitutional responsibilities and they have to act accordingly.
The Army should not be dragged into the politics. By keeping itself away from the recent political matters, the military has done the right thing as it is for the political forces to decide their matters.
Secondly, those behind the slander campaign against the institutions must be nabbed and action be taken against them as per the law of the land.
Whatever is happening on the social media does not come under the ambit of freedom of expression.
Our professional defence forces have always lived up to the task and rendered great sacrifices for the sovereignty and integrity of this country.
They draw their strength from the nation and we have no doubt in saying that the people have full trust and confidence in the defence forces.
The handful elements spreading hatred against the military do not represent the will of the whole nation.
As the PTI is starting its public contact campaign, former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the public gatherings must better advise his supporters and workers not to indulge in this dirty game.
