In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, casual workers employed at Baglihar Power Project have been without salaries for the past two years.
The workers told the media that they have been running from pillar to post to seek their pending wages but the officials at Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) have not been paying any heed towards their pleas.
“We have been telling them that if we stand terminated then it should be given in writing but they are not giving it in writing. Every time we are told that a meeting will be held to decide our fate.” they said.
“A few officials told us that we have been appointed after 2015 and our appointments are illegal. We are even told to get our salaries from the people who had appointed us. Poor are facing problems as no one is listening to them,” they added.
A casual labourer, who had suffered an electric shock, said, “I suffered an electric shock while repairing a transmission line in 2006 at Baglihar Power Project. The department didn’t provide me with any compensation. I moved the court. I was reappointed in 2009 after I withdrew the court case. But for the past two years I have been without a salary.”—KMS
