Director Administration Mehfooz Ahmed Qazi from Sindh Food Authority (SFA) shared that huge proportion of our population is facing malnutrition.
To make essential micronutrients as a part of regular meal, the role of Food Fortification Programme (FFP) is significant in fortifying essential micronutrients (Vitamin A & D) in edible oil in order to reduce micronutrient deficiencies.
He shared his views in one day training on importance of Edible Oil Fortification Processes and Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) organized by FFP (Nutrition International). He further shared that FFP’s role is inevitable in addressing micronutrient deficiencies which will be in the benefit for the public at large.
SFA is also determined to ensure fortified edible oil for public consumption and action will also be taken against not following SoPs for edible oil fortification.
FFP’s collaboration with SFA Sindh is appreciable and SFA will play its effective role in implementation of Food Fortification Act and ensure provision of fortified oil for the betterment of public in general and children in particular.
Dr. Naveed Ahmed Bhutto, Nutritionist Specialist, Sindh addressed the participants and shared that deficiencies of micronutrients are at alarming stage and affecting children and pregnant and lactating women.
There is need to focus on fortification of micronutrients in edible oil that is the only approach to address micronutrient deficiencies.
Mueen Qureshi, Provincial Programme Manager Oil Fortification also highlighted the objectives of training and delivered vote of thanks to all the participants.
Finally, Director Administration SFA distributed training certificates among the participants.
