As the torrential rains coupled with high floods played havoc in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with particular reference to Malakand and Kohistan divisions, half a dozen people were reported killed and twenty others received serious injuries during the last 24 hours. Besides huge losses of property were also reported in the province. According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) at least five people were killed and 18 others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in various mountainous cities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Owing to high flood situation in the Malakand division, every district administration has established flood control room to monitor flood and rescue situation in case of flash floods in any part of the Malakand Division and to help the affected people of the concerned areas. Commissioner Malakand told media that control rooms have been also equipped with information technology including the Wi-Fi and internet facilities adding a comprehensive plan has been chalked out with active involvement of the security forces and district administration meet any eventuality. He said that Civil and Military administrations were on same page in respect of monsoon arrangements and relief activities.
He said that monsoon flood relief funds have been formed at every district administration level with immediate provision of Rs 20 million each whereas additional amounts of Rs 50 million for each district administration have also been demanded from the provincial government.
