Fire guts several shops in Gulberg plaza

The fire brigade controlled the fire that erupted in a shopping plaza at Gulberg in Lahore on Monday after a hectic effort of several hours.

A fire engulfed Pace shopping plaza last night near 1 am and flames spread quickly overwhelming many shops in the plaza.

More than 25 vehicles of the fire brigade took part in the operation to put out the fire. Initially, the firefighters were able to partially control the flames after a hectic effort of 6 hours.

The administration also called WASA vehicles for dousing the leaping flames. As many as 60 rescue officials took part in the operation.

So far, no loss of life has been reported but valuables putting in the shops worth thousands of rupees have been gutted.

Lahore Deputy Commissioner Umar Sher Chattah in his tweet informed the public that the fire was under control by now. He wrote: A fire at a private shopping mall has been contained. Rescue 1122, fire brigade personnel did a great job.

Dangerously managed to control the fire. I constantly supervised the firefighting process myself.” The cooling process of the plaza by the rescue officials is underway.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The deputy commissioner said that the fire was of A-grade and ordered a thorough investigation into it to find the causes of the fire. Police arrested security in-charge of the Pace. The DC further said that there are more than 400 shops and several counters in the plaza.
