Exhibition titled ‘The East Asian Aesthetic and Contemporary Prints’ kicked off at National College of Arts on Tuesday with Consular, Embassy of Japan Mr. Iwasaki Ryuji as guest of honour.

The event was organized by Sabah Husain in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Foundation which reflected the ideas of beauty, aesthetics and art-making through an Eastern lens.

The exhibition brought together East Asian narratives from China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, India and Pakistan. The works comprised mainly of Prints, exploring techniques of printmaking and traditional paper making. The show was indeed a happening event where faculty, students and people from different backgrounds were welcomed keeping in view the Covid SOPs.

The curator Sabah Hussain stated that the ideas of history and tradition as they integrated throughout this region have been discussed through this exhibit and the aim is to bring this dialogue into contemporary times.

VC Prof. Dr. Murtaza Jafri also appreciated the exhibition and mentioned that it is significant to address the difference between how the east views its ideas of aesthetics and traditions which the Lahore Arts Foundation is trying to address. He also said that NCA has always encouraged such initiatives and shall continue to do so in the future as well.
