A legislative body of Upper House of Parliament on Thursday was informed that 73 percent budget of the Pakistan Scientific Foundation (PSF) has spent on non-development work and over 23 percent spent on development purposes.
These disclosers were made during Senate Standing on Science and Technology, which was held under the Chairmanship of Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen.
While briefing the committee, Chairman PSF Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig said over 23 percent development budget consist of Rs745 million. Senator Afnan Ullah Khan was of view that the budget of the PSF for research and development is too little and how can one thinks of competing with developed countries with merely spending Rs740 million on research and development.
At the outset, Chairman PSF Dr. Shahid Mehmood Baig informed the Committee about the working and performance of the PSF during last 5 years. He said that the major functions of Pakistan Scientific Foundation are to grant awards, fellowships, special scientific surveys, maintain a National register of highly qualified.
