Former director general (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon said on Tuesday that the Agency was being used for political victimization of the opponents.

Talking to the media persons outside a sessions court in Lahore, he said he was saddened to hear the decisions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) as well as a sessions court. “The IHC, in its verdict, had said that the FIA would not be allowed to behave like the Indian spy agency, RAW,” he said.

Memon said that the FIA had a specific mode of inquiry. “It is not a political organisation, but a department that works in the light of laws of the land,” he asserted.

He claimed that when he was a DG in the Agency, he had sent not a single notice on the basis of his political affiliation. Earlier, the sessions court extended the interim bail granted to the former FIA DG until March 15.

The court also ordered the Agency to provide relevant documents to Memon. It is reminded here that the FIA had registered a case against its ex-official in connection with money laundering and other charges.
