PRIME Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that he has “full faith” in Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) after Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi advised the premier to firmly quieten the ‘panic’ in his party.
The statement of the Water Minister, who is also the son of Punjab Assembly Speaker, Pervaiz Elahi, delivered a potentially fatal blow to the opposition hopes of ousting the Prime Minister through a no-trust motion.
The development is significant and must be a source of satisfaction for the Government which is facing increasing pressure from the opposition parties that have announced to move a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
It is known to all that Chaudhry Brothers do politics of principles and they make well thought out and calculated political decisions.
The statement of Moonis Elahi is in line with the recent statements of other leaders of the party who have been emphasizing that they have an agreement to support the Government for mandated five years.
No doubt, as per their tradition of entertaining guests, Chaudhrys received both Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mian Shehbaz Sharif with open arms but, according to media reports, they made no commitment to support any move to oust the Government prematurely.
However, despite all this, the Government will have to address the grievances of their coalition partners, especially in respect of rising cost of living, lack of developmental activities in the country and other day-to-day problems of the people.
It would be appropriate if the Government focuses on local government elections and fully empowers them to resolve problems of the citizens at their doorsteps.
